One of the area's prestigious law firms are looking for a Costs Drafter to work within their Family Law team in their Newton Abbot office. The work is fast-paced and is focused on working with the Legal Aid Agency and preparation of bills. This is working with and supporting a specialist Legal Aid team which represents children who are the subject of care proceedings, instructed by their Guardian, parents and grandparents. The ideal candidate will have previous experience within a similar role. However, we may also consider people who have some experience within an accounts role, or even a graduate looking for a career within a finance-related role. Any interest in law is a benefit, but this isn't a career pathway for someone wanting a longer-term career as a lawyer.
Tasks will include:
- Liaising with the fee earners to ensure that their files are costed in a timely fashion
- Liaising with the Legal Aid Agency and taking all steps to cost and submit for payment the bills on legal aid files
- Preparing bills at all levels including High-Cost case plans
- Applying for payments on account
- Submitting Legal Help forms for payment
- Dealing with the preparation and submission of bills in respect of both assessed and fixed fee cases
Experience and skills required:
- The ideal candidate will have previous experience within a similar role. However, we may also consider people who have some experience within an accounts role, or even a graduate looking for a career within a finance-related role
- Any knowledge of the Legal Aid system, or the CCMS system would be a great advantage
- Any costing files experience would be an advantage
- Excellent attention to detail and a good head for figures
- Good problem-solving skills
- Someone who can work at pace, during busy times
- Excellent organisational skills
