One of the area's top Chartered Accountancy firms are looking to hire an experienced Private Client Lawyer into their Probate team, to work in the capacity of a Probate and Trusts and Estates Manager in either their Exeter or Exmouth offices. Working closely with their Head of Legal, this is a great opportunity to come away from a law firm setting and become a part of a different industry, where client leads naturally fall upon the department from other areas of the business. The ideal candidate will have experience of working with a caseload of non-contentious probate matters and be keen to grow and develop their client base.
Responsibilities include:
- Working closely with the Partners, Directors and clients providing Probate expertise from initial consultation to the resolution of more complex cases
- Working with the Personal Representatives to gather all the information regarding the assets and liabilities of the deceased
- Preparation of all IHT accounts required
- Calculating the IHT payable (if applicable) and advising on the payment methods that could be available
- Applying for the Grant of Probate or Letters of Administration, depending on which is required;
- Collecting in the assets
- Advising on distributions to the beneficiaries
- Preparation of estate accounts
- Preparation of all tax returns
- Undertaking monthly billing and reporting functions
Experience sought:
- You will have a strong knowledge of probate regulations and inheritance tax and a positive and proactive approach to developing probate processes
- You will enjoy a challenge and have excellent time management and organisation skills
- You will be able to organise you own work to ensure that all deadlines are met
- You will be IT proficient
- Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to empathise are essential as there will be significant client contact including client visits where required
Hours and benefits:
- Monday to Friday 08:45 - 17:15 (with flexibility to shift this by 45 minutes either side)
